Poll - Who's the PSL Player of the Season Contenders

Last season, Mamelodi Sundowns' Teboho Mokoena clinched the prestigious award, edging out Orlando Pirates' Monnapule Saleng and teammate Ronwen Williams.

This sparked widespread debate among fans and on social media, with many arguing that Saleng deserved the recognition ahead of the tenacious midfield stalwart.

This season promises a similar level of drama and discussion, with opinions divided on who deserves the coveted award.

However, there are no guarantees that any of these players will secure the accolade, with some unexpected contenders emerging as potential candidates in recent times.

1. Iqraam Rayners:

The rapid forward has made a compelling case, particularly with his recent form, scoring six goals in his last two PSL matches and leading the Golden Boot standings with 13 league goals this season.

Rayners' stellar performances have earned him a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad and attracted interest from top clubs like Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

2. Lehlohonolo Mojela:

The TS Galaxy attacker has enjoyed a successful debut season in the PSL, becoming a key player for coach Sead Ramovic and contributing four goals and one assist in the league.

Mojela's standout moment came in the Carling Knockout Cup final, where he scored against Stellenbosch FC, although his team ultimately lost on penalties.

3. Lucas Ribeiro:

In his maiden season in the PSL, the Brazilian has impressed for Sundowns when fit, initially leading the league's scoring charts before injuries sidelined him and allowed others to catch up.

4. Tshegofatso Mabasa:

Dubbed "The Sniper," Mabasa has overcome a challenging start to the season at Pirates to become a vital asset for coach Jose Riveiro's squad.

With 13 goals so far, Mabasa is a contender for both the Golden Boot and Player of the Season awards.

5. Patrick Maswanganyi:

The skillful midfielder has been a revelation since joining Pirates from SuperSport United, earning widespread praise for his performances and winning nine Man of the Match awards across all competitions.

Maswanganyi's impact in midfield, with nine goals and ten assists to his name, has been instrumental in Pirates' campaign this season.

6. Ronwen Williams:

The Sundowns goalkeeper is once again in contention after an outstanding debut season for the Tshwane giants, with his performances earning plaudits from coach Rhulani Mokwena.

Williams' contributions, both for club and country, including his heroics at the Africa Cup of Nations, make him a strong candidate for the Player of the Season award.

7.Teboho Mokoena:

The ever-consistent Downs midfielder was the big winner last season as he walked away with the  Midfielder of the Season and the big Player of the Season awards.

While many celebrated him winning the big award, others insisted it should have gone to Pirates' Saleng who had also enjoyed a stellar campaign.

But Mokoena has since proven that last season’s performance was not a fluke as he continues to dish out match-winning displays from the middle of the park for the Brazilians.

Mokoena has also proven his mettle at a higher level with Bafana Bafana at the Afcon in Ivory Coast where he was one of the best performers for Broos’ side as they finished third.
