Official : Al Ahly adress CAF Regarding Refereeing Errors in AFL Following Defeat to Downs

In the wake of their recent matches in the African Football League (AFL), Al Ahly, the renowned Egyptian football club, has formally reached out to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in response to what they perceive as officiating lapses.

After suffering a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns, Al Ahly has issued a statement addressing CAF regarding what they believe were refereeing errors that impacted their performance in both the CAF Super Cup and the African Football League.

The Red Devils endured a 1-0 loss in the first leg of their AFL semi-final clash against Sundowns on Sunday.

In a statement released late on Monday night, the club appealed to CAF to prevent the recurrence of "refereeing mistakes" that occurred during their CAF Super Cup encounters against USM Algiers from Algeria and their AFL fixtures against Simba from Tanzania and Sundowns. According to the statement, these errors had a direct influence on their match outcomes and cast a negative shadow on African football.

Al Ahly urged immediate action to address this issue and ensure the smooth functioning of African competitions.

During their defeat to Sundowns, Al Ahly had a penalty appeal turned down by the match referee. Marcel Koller, the team's head coach, expressed his frustration with the officiating during a post-match press conference, questioning the absence of Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

Koller lamented, "I believe we deserved a penalty by the end of the game, but I am baffled by the fact that African referees do not make use of VAR. VAR is available, and it should have been used in situations like this. It was very apparent to me."
